Salzburger Landeskliniken BetriebsgesmbH (SALK), Austria

The Salzburger Landeskliniken (Salzburg University Clinics) consists of the following institutions:
          • Landeskrankenhaus Salzburg (Salzburg General Hospital);
          • Christian-Doppler-Klinik (Christian-Doppler-Hospital);
          • Landesklinik St. Veit (District Hospital St. Veit); and
          • Institut für Sportmedizin (Center for Sports Medicine)

In 2004 these institutions became a legal entity in the form of the non-profit holding company “Gemeinnützige Salzburger Landeskliniken Betriebsgesellschaft mbH”, which is fully owned by the State of Salzburg (Land Salzburg). With more than 4,800 employees it is the biggest employer in the State of Salzburg.
The Salzburger Landeskliniken provide state-of-the-art medical services and emergency care for about 650,000 people from the State of Salzburg and its neighboring regions. They also serve as regional centers for the promotion of public health and preventive care. In 2007 the Salzburg General Hospital (Landeskrankenhaus Salzburg) and the Christian-Doppler-Hospital (Christian-Doppler-Klinik) officially became Hospitals of the Paracelsus Medical University (Universitätsklinikum der Paracelsus Medizinischen Privatuniversität). Providing more than 1,900 hospital beds, every year about 430,000 persons receive outpatient (340,000) or inpatient treatment (90,000) from the hospital’s 670 physicians and 300 medical and technical experts. The university hospital’s cutting-edge research and teaching activities further improve patient outcomes and guarantee best-quality clinical care. Its teaching and training activities include courses in human medicine and health and nursing sciences. Teaching and training is constantly reviewed and further developed to meet the requirements of a modern public health system. The main focus, however, is always on the well-being of the patients; i.e. both teachers and students are encouraged to constantly improve their social competencies and their communication and interaction skills to provide patients with the best possible care and treatment.
