The Intel Ireland campus, at Collinstown Industrial Park, Leixlip, County Kildare is Intel's fourth largest manufacturing site overall, and the largest outside the United States. Since 1989 Intel has invested >€8B, and the site currently hosts 5000 employees including long-term contractors. The site also hosts the headquarters of the corporate wide IT Innovation Centre – part of a global network established in 2002 to drive Intel’s competitive advantage and industry leadership through innovative IT solutions, business practices and education. Intel IT Innovation Centre comprises a team of approximately 100 solution architects, technologists and development engineers engaged in developing reference solutions based on emerging technologies. Typical projects involve rapid prototyping and integration of concepts across core competency areas including peer-to-peer and distributed systems, solutions based on mobile and ubiquitous computing environments, supply / demand chain optimisation, advanced learning and knowledge management systems, and advanced industrial process control using inline sensor and multivariate parameter tracking technologies. In order to maintain a comprehensive perspective across these areas, the centre will engage in collaborative research activities which are aligned with its core competencies.

INTEL Ireland’s Previous experience relevant to the tasks that have been attributed

Intel brings research and industry experience and leadership in the development of Digital Supply Chain solutions and in RFID development. In addition to this Intel brings expertise in advance technical expertise building end-user solutions.

INTEL will be responsible for the development of iSURF Smart product architecture. Intel Ireland is working with Intel Solutions Market and Sales Team to facilitate the definition and the adoption of innovative solutions in Retail and other verticals. In this context, the group has been working with second biggest retailer in the world to pilot the digital supply chain concept, and pilot the use of RFID technology in the supply chain and on the store shop.

On the local research, Intel is part of partnership with Trinity College Dublin for the implementation of RFID technology within the supply chain. This is as a response to a call of proposal from Science Foundation Ireland (CSET program). Worldwide, Intel is conducting many research with the retail industry (Metro in Germany for Example), RFID in healthcare, RFID in any supply chain or as a process improvement program.
