As of July 2015, PALANTE project has been successfully completed. Within the scope of the project, the Personal Health System (PHS) developed to empower ankylosing spondylitis patients has been used by 3 healthcare professionals and 147 patients for more than 6 months in a pilot study, which has been conducted in three different hospitals in Ankara, Samsun and Kocaeli in Turkey. During the pilot study, 33 out of 147 patients communicated with healthcare professionals 36 times through the system. As a result of these communications between patients and healthcare professionals, there was no need for 29 patients to go to the hospital, meaning that the system decreased the number of hospital visits , thus reduced the workload of healthcare professionals and prevented patients’ spending money and time for travelling to hospitals.
